Quick Reality Check
WhatsApp introduces extra security for high-risk users
What happened:
WhatsApp is testing a new Strict Account Settings mode for users more likely to be targeted by hackers, like journalists or activists. It automatically blocks unknown callers, hides personal info and limits who can message you.
Why it matters:
Cybercriminals often target high-profile users. By bundling multiple defenses into one feature, WhatsApp is making it easier for at-risk users to protect their accounts.

60-Second Protection Fix
While WhatsApp’s “Strict Account Settings” mode is only in beta, users can activate passkey encrypted backups now. With passkey encryption, you can use your fingerprint, Face ID, or screen lock code to encrypt your chat backups.
No more complicated passwords to remember, less risk of reusing weak ones, and your backups stay fully encrypted.
To turn it on:
- Go to Settings-> Chats -> Chat Backups -> End to End encrypted backups→ Use passkey (Face ID, fingerprint, or device PIN).
Must-Have Tool :
Hackers often target apps like WhatsApp because your phone number, profile photo, and online activity can leak through public sites or weak apps. Once that info’s out there, it can be used for scams, fake accounts, or even spyware. Incogni helps by finding and removing your personal data from those data broker sites, cutting off the information attackers use to find and target you. Less exposed data means less risk.
Need help after a scam? The AARP Fraud Helpline is a free resource available to anyone who suspects they may be a victim of fraud. You can reach the helpline at 877-908-3360, where trained fraud specialists provide support and guidance on what to do next and how to avoid scams in the future. Additionally, AARP offers online support sessions for further emotional support and advocates for laws to combat fraud.
Check Out Security Operations Center “SOC” (aka “The Guardians of the Network”)
When attackers target communication platforms, SOC teams are the first to detect unusual activity, investigate suspicious logins, isolate compromised accounts, and protect user data. They’re the ones watching for those subtle signs of intrusion before a threat spreads. If you like spotting patterns, responding fast, and keeping people connected safely, this could be your calling.
