Quick Reality Check
Holiday scams are already spiking, and scammers are using fake Amazon delivery alerts and holiday “deals” to trick people when they’re the most distracted.
What happened:
Amazon issued a warning because scammers are impersonating the company with fake delivery updates, order problems, and “verify your account” messages that look almost identical to the real thing.
Why it matters:
These scams are effective because they often feel normal during the holidays. People are tracking packages, buying gifts, donating, and rushing, which makes urgent messages seem more credible.
And once you tap a bad link or respond to a fake alert, scammers can steal login details, access accounts, or use your information for more targeted attacks later.
When scammers already have parts of your personal info, like your name, email, or phone, they only need one slip-up (a click, a hasty reply, an impulsive purchase) to get into your accounts, steal money, or steal your identity.
60-Second Protection Fix
If you get a text, email, or call claiming to be Amazon, here is exactly what to do:
-
Do not click the link or call the number. Scammers send fake delivery updates, refunds, order issues, or “account locked” alerts. Amazon will never ask you to click a link to fix an urgent problem.
-
Check your real Amazon account instead. Open the Amazon app or go to Amazon.com and check Orders, Messages, and Account Alerts. If nothing is there, the message was fake.
-
Report the scam to Amazon. Forward fake texts and emails to reportascam@amazon.com. This helps Amazon block repeat offenders
-
If you clicked the link. Update your Amazon password immediately and turn on two-factor authentication. Go to Account → Login & Security → Two-Step Verification.
-
If you entered payment info. Call your bank or card provider right away and report potential fraud, and consider a credit freeze.
Must-Have Tool:
Holiday scams spike because attackers use anything they can gather about you, your device type, browser, apps, and even past activity to tailor convincing attacks. OneSpace Spectrum helps by giving you a clearer view of what is happening on your device in real time. It monitors active processes, unusual connections, and suspicious behavior so you can spot red flags early. This extra visibility makes it harder for malware or hidden tools to run quietly in the background without you knowing.
